THE PEOPLE BESIDE YOU

Trey Malicoat, M.S.

Business Growth Strategist | Human Behavior Specialist | Author and Speaker

Trey Malicoat helps business leaders answer a defining question: How do we use technology to build a more profitable business while bringing out the best in our people?

His perspective brings together executive leadership, clinical psychology, organizational change, and business growth. He has built several companies, served as president of a multimillion-dollar regional healthcare organization, and held a national vice president role with an international home care franchise organization. Across a consulting career spanning 30 years, he has helped leaders connect business strategy with the human realities that determine whether change succeeds.

With a master’s degree in clinical psychology and nearly three decades of experience in mental health, Trey understands the motivations, relationships, and responses to uncertainty that shape workplace performance. His experience includes responding in the aftermath of Columbine, the September 11 attacks, and the Pulse nightclub shooting. He has also taught at the University of Denver, Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, and Western Oregon University.

That combination informs his approach to integrating AI and automation. Trey begins by understanding how a business actually operates: where work slows down, where information disconnects, and where capable people spend their days on repetitive tasks. He then examines the organization’s culture, individual motivations, and readiness for change, working with technical partners to connect the right systems to clearly defined business needs.

At the center of his work is recapitalizing human capital: turning the time and capacity technology releases into stronger customer relationships, new services, better decisions, and opportunities for profitable growth. His approach gives leaders a practical purpose for automation and gives employees a meaningful place in the future they are helping build.

Through his consulting, writing, and keynote, The Cost of Standing Still, Trey helps organizations move from uncertainty to informed action. He brings an operator’s accountability, a clinician’s understanding of people, and a strategist’s focus on what a business can become. With a technical understanding of the intersection of technology automation and the human experience with uncertainty and change. Trey understands that technology and people will soon be deeply intertwined and as automation occurs, the human impact will be a profound need to create a new identity separate from how you have always worked. Trey's fascination with how people adapt to radical change is deeply informed through the experiences of consulting, direct trauma response, and a consistent curiosity of people, business, and mental well-being.
